A handwashing station is often valuable when restroom users will also eat, prepare or serve food, work with tools, participate in children’s activities, or spend several hours at an outdoor gathering. Rather than placing it wherever space happens to be open, locate it along a sensible route near the restrooms or activity area. It should remain reachable without crossing vehicle lanes, construction hazards, or crowded seating. For an event, consider traffic patterns at meal times and breaks. For a jobsite, consider where crews begin shifts, take breaks, and leave the work area. The number of handwashing points should be discussed in relation to attendance, crew size, event duration, and the locations of separate activity zones. A single concentrated gathering has different needs from a festival-style layout spread across a property. A handwashing station can complement standard, deluxe, or accessible porta potties, but it does not replace the need to plan restroom capacity. Describe whether the unit will serve guests, workers, vendors, or all of those groups when requesting equipment.

Placement and access determine whether a handwashing station will be used consistently. Select a reasonably level surface and keep the area clear of cords, materials, trash containers, parked vehicles, and bottlenecks. Ask the venue or property owner about preferred locations and any restrictions around water-sensitive landscaping, entrances, or food areas. On a construction site, plan for the station to stay accessible as materials and equipment move. On a wet day, avoid exposed soft ground that could become difficult to approach. A complete quote request should include the delivery address, dates, type of event or work, user estimate, number of restroom units, and requested handwashing equipment. Mention if the property has gated access, limited loading times, or a placement area far from the street. For long-term rentals, explain how the site will be accessed for service. Including handwashing in early planning creates a more coherent sanitation setup and gives hosts or project managers a clear place to direct users for basic hygiene.
